Last Meeting
Introduction
Sometimes life brings us to such a point from where it is not possible to go back, and going forward seems impossible. Some relationships, despite being incomplete, become a part of the whole life. This story is also about two such people - Aarav and Siya - who loved each other very much, but perhaps love itself became the biggest wall between them.
---
Chapter 1: The Girl in Yellow
It was the first day of college. Auditions were going on in the theater group today. Aarav, who was a third year student, was handling the direction.
"Next name?" He looked at the list.
"Siya Mehra," came the voice.
A girl came on stage - in a yellow dress, hair open, confidence on the face and a strange pain in the eyes. As if someone had written an incomplete story in her eyes.
"Do you want to read the script or one of your poems?" Aarav asked.
"Kavita," Siya said smiling, and began to read:
"Without you I get wet in the rain,
But it's as if you are somewhere nearby."
Aarav couldn't take his eyes off her for a few moments. He knew—this meeting was not for nothing.
Chapter 2: Those days were special
Time flew like wings during college days, and in those moments, Aarav and Siya's relationship also started blossoming slowly.
They used to meet everyday on the pretext of rehearsals, but soon there was no need for excuses in those meetings.
One evening, when it was raining lightly, both of them were sitting on the college roof. Aarav looked at Siya, who was carefully watching the drops falling on her palm.
"Do you look for something in the rain too?" Aarav asked.
Siya smiled, "Yes... maybe that moment... in which something was left incomplete."
Aarav remained silent, but started looking for that solace in Siya's eyes, which he did not get in words.
Slowly their world became small - in which there were only the two of them, some cups of tea, theater dialogues and a lot of silence of eyes.
---
One day Aarav came to drop Siya outside the college campus.
"Tomorrow is my first performance," Siya said, "What if I get scared?"
Aarav held her hand, "Then I will be there, behind your every fear - like a shadow."
That was the first time Siya lowered her eyes.
That evening, both of them sat together on the same bench in the college park and silently looked at the moon. That bench became their most special place - witness to every laughter, every argument, every silence.
---
Chapter 3: Distances were also important
After college, their paths were definitely the same, but their destinations were now different.
Aarav made theatre his career – he started working as an assistant director in a local drama company.
On the other hand, Sia got an offer from a big film company in Delhi – for a small but impactful role.
“Delhi?” Aarav asked, startled.
Sia said softly, “Yes… this is an opportunity Aarav. For me to do something big. You understand, right?”
Aarav smiled, but his eyes held a question he couldn’t put into words:
“Are you ready to move away from me?”
---
After reaching Delhi, Sia’s life changed completely.
Shootings, press, promotions – her world became faster.
Aarav stayed there, in the same city, around the same bench… but now he was alone.
The phone calls had become shorter. The conversations that used to last till late night were now limited to “How are you?” and “I am fine.”
One evening, Aarav called Siya while sitting on that bench.
“It is raining today too,” he said, “and I thought you would ask if I am getting wet or not.”
Siya remained silent. Then she said softly,
“I am getting wet, but in the rain of some other city… where you are not.”
---
The distance between them kept increasing – of cities, of time and of understanding.
And when both of them realized that this distance was no longer just in kilometers, then they took a decision:
“There should be one last meeting. One that will tell everything.”
Chapter 4: Old Bench, New Silence
It was the same park, the same dense trees, and the same white wooden bench – on which two hearts had once weaved dreams of the future together.
Today, after many months, they were meeting again at the same place… but this time silence was sitting between them, like a third person.
Aarav was already sitting there, the moisture of light rain was visible on his clothes.
Siya came after a few moments – wearing the same yellow dress which she had worn the first time when Aarav had seen her.
Both of them sat down. There was a distance of a few inches between them – which was sweet once, today felt like a prick.
"How are you?" Aarav asked, reluctantly.
"Fine…" Siya said, but there was tiredness in her voice – as if every answer had come after winning a battle.
Both of them sat silent for some time. A dry leaf fell nearby – as if nature too had become silent with this moment.
"Where did we get lost, Aarav?" Sia asked suddenly.
"Probably at the same place where we left... on different paths," Aarav replied softly.
Sia's eyes were moist.
"I wanted to tell you something... long ago, but I didn't have the courage."
"You can still say it," Aarav said without looking at her.
Sia said in a trembling voice, "I still... look for you in everything. I wish you were here at every shooting location. But now... maybe it's too late, isn't it?"
Aarav's eyes were still dry, but his fingers were trembling.
"If some things are not said at the right time, they just become memories."
---
And then... both of them stood up.
Sia gave a slight smile - the smile that had tears, regret, and maybe even incomplete love.
Aarav looked back at the bench. Perhaps those moments were still breathing at that place...
...where a last meeting ended without completing two incomplete hearts.
Chapter 5: Ashes of Time
Not much had changed since that day — the streets were the same crowded, the sky the same play of sunshine and shadow, and the same race in life.
But something had broken permanently within Aarav and Siya.
Aarav was still in the same city.
The theatre had become his solace — he found himself in every character, lived Siya in every story.
The bench was still there, but it was no longer just a piece of wood — it had become a monument, of those moments that were now buried in the ashes of time.
Aarav would often sit there and write scripts.
He wrote a play — "Adhoori Chuppiyaan" — in which the heroine and the hero never meet, they only talk in their dreams.
The play became a hit, but Aarav was not affected.
When art is born from pain, praise only deepens the wounds.
---
On the other hand, Siya was moving ahead in the world of films. Name, fame, money – everything was there.
But whenever there was a scene where 'vidai' or 'chhadna' came, for a few moments she was no longer Siya – she again became that girl sitting on the bench, who could not say anything.
She tried to call Aarav many times – dialled the number, then disconnected.
She knew – after that last meeting, everything was just too late.
In an interview, when a journalist asked,
"The biggest regret of your life?"
Siya said:
"A story remained incomplete – which could have been completed, if time had supported."
---
Sometimes two people can live with each other for their entire life, yet remain incomplete.
Because love is not meant to be together forever...
...sometimes it is just meant to sit on a bench, and say everything without saying anything.
Chapter 6: A Name on the Bench
Five years had passed.
The park was still the same, but the branches of the trees and the bench had aged a little more.
It was a mild winter day, and the sky was covered with pink sunlight.
A young man came and sat on the bench – a book in his hand and a small bouquet of flowers beside him.
He was not Aarav… but the bench still knew him.
Aarav had left the city now. He had started a small theatre school in the hills, where he taught acting to children.
He still wrote a script in the name of Siya every year, but never sent it.
---
One day, a woman came to the park – wrapped in simplicity, face calm but deep eyes.
It was Siya.
She had come to the city for one of her shoots, and without telling anyone – dragged herself to that bench.
The bench was the same… only now something was engraved on one of its corners –
"Siya and Aarav – an incomplete story."
Siya kept touching that name for a long time... as if the distance of years was being erased on a wooden surface.
She sat there and wrote in her diary:
> “Some love stories are not completed...
But their place is always there - on some bench, in some poem, in some incomplete smile.”
---
Epilogue:
It is said that even today sometimes two people sit on that bench -
Sometimes reading a book, sometimes just looking at the sky.
And if one looks carefully, then there is a third shadow between those two shadows -
Which says,
"Love never dies... it just waits sitting on the bench of time."
